24 June 2022

On June 23, 2022, Ukraine received the status of a candidate for EU membership. All leaders of the 27 EU countries voted for this at the summit in Brussels.
Benefits that Ukraine receives as a candidate for EU membership:
- the right to participate in new EU initiatives
- access to financial assistance from countries preparing to join the European Union
- increasing the attractiveness for investors and security of business
- the EU will consider the allocation of funds for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine as a contribution to the welfare of a potential member of the European Union, and not a third country
Ukraine must also meet a number of requirements to become a member of the EU:
- introduce legislation on the procedure for selecting judges of the Constitutional Court
- complete the selection of candidates for members of the High Council of Justice and the selection of candidates for the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine
- strengthen the fight against corruption, appoint new heads of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau;

- introduce an anti-oligarchic law

- complete the reform of legislation on the protection of national minorities
Public authorities have stated that Ukraine plans to meet these requirements by the end of 2022
