We will discuss the problems of supporting women, as well as ways of cooperation and building synergy between business associations, private companies, non-governmental organizations and authorities.
The value of the workshop
"The full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation had a negative impact on the economy of Ukraine. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 20 million Ukrainian men and women lost their income, about 50% of businesses suspended their activities, and 30% of pre-war jobs were lost. In this context, we see women as powerful agents of change, many of whom are currently acquiring a new profession, starting their own business, creating jobs, supporting the volunteer movement or civil society organizations. The promotion and implementation of WEPs is one of the most effective tools for promoting the development and support of such women's initiatives and the participation of women in the processes of recovery and decision-making in the company, community, region and the country in general," emphasized Halyna Meshcheryakova, program specialist of UN Women in Ukraine.
The workshop is one of the activities that fulfills the goals of the Empowering Women in Business Initiative.
"Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine caused the biggest modern challenge to the global architecture of peace and security. Women in this situation are highly vulnerable and face security and protection risks, including multiple forms of gender-based violence. They also face challenges related to access to housing, food, sexual and reproductive health services and employment. 61% of the registered unemployed in Ukraine are women. Given all these challenges, business, the public sector and the state must work together to empower women. And our project is precisely about ensuring that this cooperation is effective and efficient today and in the period of reconstruction of Ukraine", - says the executive director of the Ukraine Investment and Trade Facilitation Center Iryna Tytarchuk.
The Empowering Women in Business Initiative promotes the use of transformative approaches to advance gender equality and women's empowerment. It aims to engage private companies in implementing programs to achieve gender equality and economic empowerment of women in the workplace, supply chains and communities.
Also, one of the urgent goals of the Initiative is to stimulate implementation organizations (WEPs) in their work.
